Full Report: Cumberland County: With the boating season upon us, now is the perfect time to check your safety equipment prior to using your watercraft. Make sure you have a USCG approved wearable personal flotation device on board for every passenger -- its not just a good idea, its the law! If your boat requires a fire extinguisher, make sure it is charged, and properly mounted.

Take time to visually inspect your vessel for cracks in the hull. Pay especially close attention to the transom, where the motor attaches to the boat. The weight of the outboard can cause hairline cracks on the hull, if it is too heavy. Remember, it is a good idea to have an anchor and paddles on board, to prevent any mishaps while on the water. Plan ahead, and have a safe boating season. Walleye are active on the Susquehanna River. Most anglers are using live minnows or green rapala-style lures.

Full Report: Cumberland County: Cold temperatures and light snow make an enjoyable afternoon for anglers that like to have the whole stream to themselves. The Yellow Breeches Creek continues to hold trout year round, and the Catch and Release Special Regulation area in Boiling Springs continues to get solid angling pressure. Fishermen are reminded that no bait may be used or had in possession in the Special Regulation Area

Several anglers have also been observed in the Fly-Fishing Area on Big Spring Creek. The preferred fly this time of year has been scuds.

Earlier this month, Ice fishermen were on Laurel Lake, Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Power Bait was producing some nice size trout from the mid November Stocking. Make sure you check with the Park Office for ice thickness, and remember to wear a life jacket when venturing onto ice.

Full Report: Cumberland County: Walleye are finally appearing in decent numbers in the Susquehanna River! The annual walleye run seems to have arrived later than normal this year. Try using live minnows or an artificial lure that mimics a small fish. Remember, walleye have keen eyesight and can out compete other predatory fish (like smallmouth bass) during low light conditions. Look for a Gray cloudy day, with a good "walleye-chop" on the surface of the water. Anglers are catching fish at the York Haven Hydro Dam, and the Harrisburg Dock street Dam.

The walleye run is imminent in the Susquehanna River, but water temperatures need to drop to around 65 degrees before the action really picks up. A few walleye in the 19-inch range have been observed in anglers creels near York Haven. A six-inch steel leader is helpful when fishing low river waters, to prevent loosing expensive lures on jagged rocks.

Do not forget to check out Laurel Lake at Pine Grove Furnace State Park.

Plenty of Flathead Catfish have been caught near the Harrisburg International Airport and the mouth of the Conewago Creek. Blue gills and Rock Bass make great bait for these large catfish.

Crappie continue to offer great fishing in the springtime. Fish deep water, and move a jig up and down the water column to locate Crappie. Dam breasts and piers are good places to start.

Full Report: Cumberland County: With the recent rains, river levels are at a 6 foot depth. The Susquehanna River and lower Conodoguinet Creek and Conewago Creek have ample water for enjoyable fall fishing. Anglers are reporting nice smallmouth bass catches in the 8 - 12 inch class. It is good to see healthy fish in this size range. Anglers are also catching panfish along the shorelines. Although motor oil colored rubber worms perform well, anglers are having luck with bright green worms with reflective flecks.

Night fishing remains productive for flathead catfish, especially near York Haven. Many anglers are using live panfish as bait for the big cats. Fish in the mid thirty-pound range are being taking using this method.
