Full Report: Berks County: Local anglers at Lake Ontelaunee in Berks County are catching panfish out of the Rte. 73 Quarry Hole. With the temperatures dropping and less daylight, the best fishing is first thing in the morning. Try using plastic grubs on jig heads down deep in the Quarry Hole to entice panfish out of the depths. Good luck and happy fishing!

Much needed rainfall has picked up the fishing in the area. The recently stocked Scotts Run Lake and the Tulpehocken Creek downstream of Blue Marsh are great spots for trout. Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout are hitting spinners and a variety of bait, and the Tulpehocken Creek is a prime location for fly-fishing. Please pay close attention to posted special regulations on the Tulpehocken Creek below the Blue Marsh Stilling Basin to the Red Covered Bridge. No bait is permitted and all fish must be released (Delayed Harvest-Artificial Lures Only Area). Good luck!

Fishing at Blue Marsh Lake has been good for both striper and bass. The lake has been gradually releasing water, so be careful while boating and reduce speed where necessary.

Full Report: Berks County: The bass are striking over at Lake Ontelaunee in Berks County. With the recent rain and lower humidity, bass are starting to come out of the depths and feed. Try working plastic worms and or crank baits through the lily pads. In the middle of the day, try fishing in the depths of the quarry hole off Rte. 73. ….. Good Luck!

South Berks County - It was a good weekend at Blue Marsh Lake with many anglers finding success targeting bass, crappie, and catfish. Prime spots include the deep water toward the dam breast and the shoal buoy near the island, which is a great place for stripers. Both areas are tough to fish when the lake is full of boats, but it is worth the wakes if you are picking up fish. An overlooked fishing area is the section of the Tulpehocken arm near Bernville. Launch out of the PFBC Sheidy Access, and head to the right (the entire arm is a no-wake zone). This area has limited boat traffic with plenty of coves and structure that should put fish on the stringer. The access is a great spot to fish from shore, especially for catfish, set up behind the bulletin boards near the boat launch. A reminder that all boats must be registered or have a current launch permit (non-powered boats) to use the PFBC Sheidy Access. Other less traveled fishing areas are the upper section of the Spring Creek arm, and the narrow channel above the bridge at Mt. Pleasant, which are both no-wake zones. Maps are available at the Ranger station, and the lake is open 24/7 for fishing and boating.

Full Report: Berks County: The Tulpehocken Creek (Delayed Harvest-Artificial Lures Only Area) continues to be a good choice for trout into the beginning of summer. Nice browns and rainbows provided plenty of action over the weekend, with picture perfect weather and stream conditions. The caddis was hot, and the best stretch to fish was downstream of the paper mill. So “tie up”, and get into some good fishing!

Bass were striking hard at Blue Marsh Lake, with anglers hooking up on topwater lures, spinner baits, and plastics worked deep. Many boats were fishing the no-wake arms to avoid the heavy boat traffic on the main lake. Good size crappies were hitting minnows and jigs near structure, and liver remains the preferred bait for catfish. Fish near dusk or into the night for the best chance at a lunker cat.

Bass season is underway and anglers are reporting some success at Blue Marsh Lake and other area waters.

Full Report: Berks County: Fly-fishing has been productive in the Special Regulations Area of the Tulpehocken Creek.

Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout are actively feeding mornings and evenings, and recent creek conditions have been great. Do not overlook the lower section below the Red Covered bridge, nice fly water and it is holding many fish.

It was a good weekend for fishing on Blue Marsh Lake. Two big Muskellunge caught and released on crank baits (one fish measuring 45 inches), nice Walleye and a few good size bass caught on plastics.

The PA Bass Opener is coming up on June 14. Good luck!

Full Report: Berks County: Nice weekend at Blue Marsh Lake last week with reduced boat traffic because of the fall like temperatures.

Channel Catfish were striking hard on liver and worms at the PFBC Sheidy Access near Bernville, and in the Tulpehocken arm of the lake. Good size crappies were taken on live minnows fished over downed trees in the Mt. Pleasant area (minimum size 9 inches/20 crappie per day permitted). Bass fishing was a little slow, but it looks good for the opener on June 14.

Full Report: Berks County: Trout stocking continues in Berks County with two sections of the Tulpehocken Creek scheduled for April 25. The first section is in the western end of Berks County from Marion Township Rod and Gun Club downstream to Charming Forge. The creek flows through scenic farmland, and it is perfect for bait or spinner fishing. The other stocked section is downstream of the Red Covered Bridge near Penn State to Reading. Bait fishing is permitted in this section, the stream is very wide and well suited for fly fishing.

Trout fishing throughout the county has been very good. The creeks have cleared after the recent rainstorm, and many areas have been stocked since last week. Hot baits include live minnows, worms, and yellow bait pastes. Spinners are always productive, and try using white colored soft plastic jigs.

The weather has been great, so get out and do some fishing! Dont forget, Mentored Youth Fishing Day has been rescheduled statewide to May 10 on select waters, which includes Scotts Run Lake and Antietam Lake in Berks County.

Good luck!

Full Report: Berks County: Good size crowds greeted the 2014 trout opener in Berks County, with many anglers catching their limit, or just choosing to catch and release. Trout were hitting on a variety of baits and lures, including worms, corn, minnows, wax worms, spinners, and a rainbow of colors of bait pastes

A few lucky anglers landed large trophy size trout, making great first day photos and fish stories to tell in years to come. The rain began late morning, thinning down the crowd, but fishing remained good throughout the day.

If you forgot your raincoat on Sunday, you are probably still wet!

Heavy rains caused muddy creek conditions, and chilly winds made the fishing a little tough.

Larger blade spinners were a good choice, worked low and slow. The creeks are still holding many fish, and conditions should improve by mid-week. Try Scotts Run Lake to pick up some nice brookies and browns

Full Report: Berks County: The perfect getaway, from all that shopping and hanging lights, is a day out fishing! Kaercher Creek Lake is scheduled to be stocked with trout on Dec. 10. Scott's Run Lake is another good choice for trout, as they were recently stocked and the browns are hitting.

Lake Ontelaunee continues to be good for crappie along Route 73 with small jigs and minnows working best.

Full Report: Berks County: The cooler winds of November always bring on good crappie fishing, and Lake Ontelaunee and Blue Marsh Lake are good choices to hook up.

Bright colored jigs and live minnows have been producing some nice fish at both locations.

Try the shoreline along Route 73 at Lake Ontelaunee, and fish structure and downed trees at Blue Marsh Lake. A reminder that at Blue Marsh Lake the legal size for crappie is 9 inches with a 20 fish limit per day.

Trout fishing action continues at the Tulpehocken Creek downstream of Blue Marsh, and at Scott's Run Lake, which were both stocked last month.
